Start the Process

New Students

Degree-Seeking (Undergraduate and Graduate).  After your admission is confirmed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or by the Office of Graduate Studies, International Student Programs (ISP) will contact you directly via email to begin the immigration support process.

Visiting (Non-Degree).  After the official Visiting Student Researcher or Special Student invitation is confirmed by the Office of Graduate Studies or by the Dean's Office, ISP will contact you directly via email to begin the immigration support process.

Currently in the United States.  If you are currently in the United States in a non-immigrant student status (F-1 or J-1), you may require a SEVIS transfer to move your SEVIS record (the I-20 or DS-2019) from your current school to Caltech.  Please review the SEVIS Transfer Release Form to learn how this works.

New Scholars

Caltech.  International Scholar Services (ISS) will contact you soon after your appointment is finalized and approved by the Division.  Once ISS  has all the details of your appointment at Caltech, ISS will determine the most appropriate U.S. immigration status for your time at Caltech.

JPL.  The JPL International Office requires all new international scholars to complete the Foreign National Intake Form and email it to visa@jpl.nasa.gov. Once the JPL International Office has all the details of your appointment at JPL, the office will contact you to discuss the most appropriate U.S. immigration status for your time at JPL.
