Start the Process


New Students
Degree-Seeking (Undergraduate and Graduate). After your admission is confirmed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or by the Office of Graduate Studies, International Student Programs (ISP) will contact you directly via email to begin the immigration support process.
Visiting (Non-Degree). For non-degree students at the graduate level, the Visiting Student Researcher or Special Student invitation is must first be granted by official letter from Office of Graduate Studies, then ISP will contact you directly via email to begin the immigration support process. For non-degree students at the undergraduate level, the Exchange, SURF, or VURP invitation is must first be granted by official letter from the Student-Faculty Programs Office or FASA, then ISP will contact you directly via email to begin the immigration support process.
Currently in the United States. If you are currently in the United States in a non-immigrant student status (F-1 or J-1), you may require a SEVIS transfer to move your SEVIS record (the I-20 or DS-2019) from your current school to Caltech. Please review the SEVIS Transfer Release Form to learn how this works.
New Scholars
Caltech. International Scholar Services (ISS) will contact you soon after your appointment is finalized and approved by the Division. Once ISS has all the details of your appointment at Caltech, ISS will determine the most appropriate U.S. immigration status for your time at Caltech.
JPL Appointments
Once the JPL International Office is notified of your appointment at JPL, the office will contact you to discuss the most appropriate U.S. immigration status for your time at JPL.
