Electronic I-94
By end of May 2013, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will replace paper I-94 cards with electronic I-94 records at all air and sea ports of entry.
Review your electronic I-94 on the CBP website after each arrival and either save an electronic copy or print a hard copy for your records. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Social Security Administration may still require a printed copy of the I-94.
Travel Advisory: Delays Expected at U.S. Ports of Entry
Increased security at U.S. ports of entry may affect inspection times for individuals entering in F or J status, as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) must verify each electronic SEVIS record.
Consider potential delays when arranging connecting flights and airport pick-ups. Having appropriate documentation can help:
- Valid I-20 or DS-2019, signed within last 12 months
- Valid F or J visa (Canadians exempt)
- Valid passport (valid 6 months beyond date of entry)
