GUIDED PAINTING
OCTOBER | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants painted a Caltech scene inspired by Beckman Auditorium, the mountains, and sky in a relaxed, guided painting session. Led by guest artist Jieyu, a Caltech PhD student in Neurobiology.
THE ART OF COMMUNICATION
NOVEMBER | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Hollywood actor, author, and teacher Kari Coleman shared techniques from film, television, and improvisation to help participants communicate with confidence on screen and in person. Kari teaches Caltech's Improvisation for Scientists and has appeared in Seinfeld, The Good Doctor, and The Amazing Spider-Man films.
INTUITIVE COLLAGE
DECEMBER | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants followed their intuition, layering images, colors, and textures to create meaningful collages reflecting their emotions and ideas. Led by guest artist Scarlit Bloome, Associate Professor at ArtCenter College of Design.
CREATIVE WRITING
JANUARY | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants explored narrative and reflective nonfiction through guided prompts and creative writing exercises. Led by guest artist Timothy Gomez, Director of the Creative Writing Conservatory at California School of the Arts.
AFRICAN DJEMBE DRUMMING
FEBRUARY | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants learned the rhythms of djembe drumming in an energizing, hands-on session focused on music, stress relief, and community. Led by guest artist and Grammy-winning percussionist Danny Petersen.
THE THING FROM THE FUTURE
MARCH | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants played The Thing From The Future, an imagination game designed to spark creative thinking about possible futures through hypothetical objects and scenarios. Led by guest designer, futurist, and change-maker Stuart Candy, co-creator of the game.
FIBER ARTS - CROCHET
APRIL | CSS 2nd Floor Common Area
Participants learned the fundamentals of crochet in a relaxed, hands-on session guided by members of the Caltech community. Beginners created something of their own while learning and connecting with others.

ISP Art&Soul is a monthly affinity space for international students and allies to explore a variety of creative outlets. Through visual art, storytelling, music, movement, or multimedia projects, ISP Art&Soul provides a safe and inclusive space to discover, share, and connect. Each session focuses on a different medium, such as painting, pottery, creative writing, crafting, drumming, or other, and encourages participants to create, reflect, and collaborate.
