SEVP Portal
Maintaining lawful F-1 status is your responsibility. ISP is available to assist you in understanding your responsibilities if you have any questions.
A critical part of maintaining your F-1 status while on OPT or STEM is making sure your SEVIS record (your I-20 online) contains accurate information. You can make several updates yourself - directly in SEVIS - through the SEVP Portal.
The SEVP Portal is a reporting tool for F-1 "students" (alumni) on Active OPT and STEM. Once OPT (or STEM) is Active in SEVIS, you will receive an email notification from DHS-SEVP (Student & Exchange Visitor Program) prompting you to create an account. Please read further to understand more.
Learn how your SEVP Portal works
- U.S. Residential (Physical) Address
- U.S. Mailing Address
- Phone Number
- Employer (only for initial OPT; STEM students update through ISP)
- Supervisor (for students on STEM)
No. Email address updates must be completed by ISP. If ISP updates your email address, you will receive a notification to verify the new email address. If you do not verify the email address, your Portal account will remain locked.
Portal users can now reset their own accounts. A "Password Reset" option is available on the SEVP Portal log in page. If this does not work, you can ask ISP reset your portal account.
Unfortunately, no. ISP does not get notified whenever you make an update through the Portal. This creates a mismatch in data between ISP and SEVIS, thus hindering our ability to advise you properly. In addition to making your update via the Portal, please email updates and inquiries directly to ISP.
The following changes must be reported (through your Portal Account or to ISP) within 10 days:
- Name
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- U.S. Residential (Physical) Address
- U.S. Mailing Address
- Employer Information (only during initial OPT):
- Start or End Date
- Employer Name
- Employer Address (physical site where work is performed)
- Unemployment must be reported within 5 days of becoming unemployed.
