Culture shock can inhibit your desire to be social, but one of the most important ways to adjust to a new country is to make new friends.
Be assured that the Caltech/JPL community is aware of your transition and is here to assist you while you are settling-in. Besides the Caltech International Spouses Club and the Caltech Women's Club, there are many other clubs you can join at any time. These clubs represent a broad range of interests, including hiking, tai chi, jazz band, knitting, drawing and painting. You may also want to improve your English – there are different places on the Caltech campus where spouses can take one or more free English classes.
It's always reassuring to know that you are not the only one struggling while you are adjusting. We invite you to read these tips if you are experiencing some ups and downs along the way, which are nornmal and part of the transition process.
